    Twilight Series Race 4/5

Another great afternoon on the water yesterday – with 27 boats on the start line, and over 50 paddlers enjoying the river.

Results for Thursday’s race can be seen here: https://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=414718

Results for previous races, along with the Series pointscore (you score points for each race you do in the Series) can be seen on the Far South Coast Paddlers WebScorer Homepage, here: https://www.webscorer.com/farsouthcoastpaddlers

With four races now completed, the Pointscore continues to develop, with plenty of opportunities remaining for paddlers to get their names to the top of the list.

In the 3km Distance, Lewis has opened up a healthy lead over Nature Coast, Frank, Nathan, Spencer, Leo & Ky with only 5 points seperating them all.

In the 6km Distance, Winter Series winner Henry has surged to a 1 point lead over Tori Hennig, with Paul Hill now in third, and Xavier (the OC6) closely behind in fouth.

In the 9km Distance the lead is tied between John Carpenter and Darren Phillips, with Allison Booth just a couple of points in arrears.

However, if your name is not one of those at the top of the list, dont be too concerned. There will be ten (10) races in this Twilight Series (we’ll continue after xmas up to the end of daylight savings) so there are plenty more races to come and plenty of points to be earned. Remember also, that only your best seven (7) results will be counted. So if you’ve had a bad race, you can drop that one and use a better result to boost your overall point score.

Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the water for Race #5 of the Twilight Series on Thursday 11th December.

    Hawkesbury Canoe Classic 2025

Bob & Kristy’s Double Ski -Wiseman’s Dash a 65 km charity paddle on the mighty Hawkesbury River

Bob Turner and Kristy Benjamin entered the 2025 Hawkesbury Canoe Classic, choosing the 65 km Wiseman’s Dash. Their goal was to finish strong, paddle smart, and support the cause, all while maintaining perfect rhythm in their double ski. They did that and more.

A Calm Launch and Steady Start

Launching from Windsor, Bob and Kristy settled quickly into their groove. In a double ski, timing is everything, and they showed excellent coordination. They focused on a sustainable stroke rate, conserving energy for the long middle section.

    Pushing Through the Tough Middle

Rather than pushing for big surges, they lowered their stroke slightly and leaned into their leg drive. This focus paid off, they established an efficient rhythm and avoided a drop-off in pace. Their combined experience and trust in each other proved crucial here.

    Final Push to Wiseman’s

In the final kilometres, knowing the finish line was near gave them an extra boost. They maintained solid technique and clean strokes, crossing the finish with good form.

Reflection: What This Dash Meant to Them

    • Teamwork Over Speed: For Bob and Kristy, the Dash wasn’t about setting records — it was about working as one.
    • Resilience: Even in the middle’s most challenging moments, they adapted and kept going.
    • Cause-Driven: Their participation supported the Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation, contributing to the fundraising impact of the event. givenow.com.au+1
    • Paddling Community: Their effort reflected the spirit of the Classic — endurance, camaraderie, and commitment.
